Tigers aim to build on early-season platform

Graham Kitchener says back-to-back victories in the opening rounds of the Aviva Premiership have given Leicester Tigers a platform on which to build.

Tigers followed up their opening day win against Newcastle Falcons with a first victory on the road against Exeter Chiefs in Round 2.

Kitchener says Tigers will have to step up again this Saturday (3.15pm) when they make the trip to the Recreation Ground to play Bath Rugby, who narrowly missed out on a place in last season’s Aviva Premiership semi-finals.

“The wins give us a bit of a platform,” said Kitchener, who put in an eye-catching performance in the 24-20 win at Exeter’s Sandy Park. “But Bath is going to be another step up. They had a really good season last year and we didn’t manage to beat them last year.

“We need to go there with confidence from the last two games but we have to admit there is plenty to work on.

“We need to address those things during the week and look to put in a performance for 80 minutes.”

Kitchener added: “Exeter is a hard place to visit. It was a tight win. We were made to battle hard for it but we wanted to come away with the four points, which is what we did.

“We tidied the game up well at the end. We were sensible in the last 10 minutes or so, which was very positive.”
