Tigers await draw for Middlesex Sevens

Welsh regions The Ospreys and The Dragons will compete in the Middlesex Sevens at Twickenham this year, along with the British Army, Leeds Carnegie and the 12 Guinness Premiership teams. The draw will be announced at 11am tomorrow (July 10).

The Ospreys are no strangers to Twickenham, having played there against Tigers in the last two EDF Energy Cup Finals. The Dragons will join them in trying to put a Welsh name on the trophy for the first time, with sides like Swansea and Llanelli having taken part many times in the 1950s and 60s without success.

The British Army were winners in 2001 and 2004, and will be among the favourites again with a team normally boasting a strong Pacific Islands presence.

Leeds Carnegie were quarter-finalists last season and the tournament will provide the first competitive outing for new coaching team Andy Key and Neil Back.

A Tigers squad which included Tom Croft, Ben Pienaar and Jordan Crane reached the quarter-final stages last year after coming through a group which included Bristol and London Irish. They were eventually knocked out by eventual champions Newcastle.

The Middlesex Sevens takes place on Saturday, August 16. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster on 0871 871 0777 or by visiting http://www.middlesex7s.com/
