De Montfort University's rugby teams were given a pre-match team talk ahead of this evening's varsity matches by members of the Leicester Tigers squad.DMU’s men’s and women’s teams take on University of Leicester in the Leicester Tigers Foundation Varsity Games in front of thousands of supporters at Welford Road this evening. The women’s game kicks off at 6.30pm with the men’s match following 8.05pm.
Riccardo Brugnara, Freddie Burns, Laurence Pearce and Jack Roberts took part in a Q&A in which they provided advice on a range of topics including preparing for a big game and dealing with the pressure of playing in front of a big crowd.
They also presented the players with their shirts to cheers from teammates, and it all came about thanks to DMU’s close partnership with the Tigers.
Pearce said: “It will be a great experience for the players to run out at Welford Road and it is one to really enjoy.
“I would say to them to forget about the crowd, think of it as a game with friends and they will be fine.”
Tigers players have already been heavily involved during the build up to this evening’s Leicester Tigers Foundation Varsity Games with Anthony Allen, Gonzalo Camacho and Terrence Hepetema providing coaching at DMU and the University of Leicester.
Tickets for the games are still available priced £5. Book online at www.leicestertigers.com/varsity and use the promotional code VARSITY15 to secure the early bird price. Or pay on the night when tickets will be £7.50.
De Montfort University and University of Leicester students can buy tickets at their respective Students' Union or via their men's and women's rugby teams.
