Leicester Tigers and Brooksby Melton College have formed a partnership to launch a new Rugby Academy for the 2014/15 season.

The partnership will allow students to develop their rugby skills in 10 hours of coaching per week while studying a full-time sports course at the College.

Specialist coaches from Tigers will cover subjects including physiology, and strength and conditioning, as well as developing individual and team skills.

Students on other programmes at the College will also benefit from a range of enhancements provided by the Tigers, making this a unique opportunity for anyone wanting to improve their rugby skills and gain exposure to one of the country’s leading clubs.

Brooksby Melton College principal Chris Ball said: “This is just the type of partnership the College is looking to develop to provide the best opportunities for sporting students.

“The College is well under way in building a state-of-the-art £3milion sports facility that includes a sports hall, sports science labs, and strength and conditioning rooms as well as a full-size 3G pitch.”

Scott Clarke, head of community at Leicester Tigers, said: “I hope this relationship can develop into a nationwide beacon for best practice, providing students with the opportunity to increase their practical understanding and academic and sporting ability.

“Brooksby College will possess some of the best facilities for sport in the region and it is an exciting project for Tigers Community to get involved with right from the start. We hope to develop a team ethos at the College and develop their Rugby Academy over the years to come.”

There will be an opportunity for all interested students to attend a taster event in the next few months.
