The Leicester Tigers Foundation recently hosted a wheelchair rugby taster session for pupils at Krishna Avant Primary School.

With the aim of providing new opportunities and sports to youngsters across the county, a group of Year 6 pupils were able to try out wheelchair rugby across a number of sessions at the school.

Krishna Avanti Primary School has enjoyed a close relationship with the club over recent years offering a number of rugby and multi-sport sessions. Its special educational needs and disabily (SEND) programmes allow youngsters of mixed-abilities to take part in variations of sport

Sam Johnston, Leicester Tigers Foundation SEND officer, said: "It’s been brilliant to come into a school like Krishna Avanti school and introduce pupils to a new sport. We utilised the 10 new rugby specialist wheelchairs for an inclusive rugby session allowing everyone on-site to play the sport collectively with maximum enjoyment and engagement.

"With support from schools and the organisations such as the club's Wheelchair Rugby partner Häfele alongside The Leicester Tigers Foundation, has given us the chance to break down barriers to make sport inclusive and we're looking forward to going into many more schools within Leicestershire to encourage inclusive rugby and sports for all."

The club aims to introduce a number of mixed-ability rugby Training sessions and youth Wheelchair rugby training sessions in 2022.
