Leicester Tigers joined Samantha Cameron, the Prime Minister's wife, at a Downing Street reception to mark the fifth anniversary of Tickets For Troops.

Tigers have supported the military charity since 2010, donating tickets to home games in the Aviva Premiership, European Rugby Champions Cup, the LV= Cup and the international fixtures with the Maori All Blacks and the Barbarians.

In all, Tigers have donated more than 2,500 tickets, including seats at the Welford Road concerts performed by Will Young and James Morrison.

Mrs Cameron is a founding patron of Tickets For Troops, which was set up in 2009 to recognise and reward the servicemen and women who put their lives on the line for Britain.

The charity offers members of the Armed Forces tickets to events which they can share with their families as an acknowledgement of the work they do and on behalf of the hundreds of generous donors, including Tigers, who have given free tickets to the charity.

Mrs Cameron said “It was a real pleasure to host Tickets For Troops’ 5th Anniversary at Downing Street. It is so important to give something back to the amazing men and women who give so much to keep our country safe.”

Tigers were represented at the reception by Laura Horne, head of customer services. She said: “Leicester Tigers have long-standing links with the Armed Forces, many of our season ticket holders and supporters have links to the military and we are delighted to support Tickets For Troops.

“It is a great idea and we’re delighted to have played a small part in its success, and we’re proud to continue our support.”

Lord Marland, Tickets For Troops chairman, said: “The scale and continued generosity of people supporting our charity is unbelievable.

“Our commitment to the troops has struck a chord with those in the entire entertainment and sports community and we are proud to be able to deliver a service to them on behalf of our donors.

“You only have to speak to the ticket recipients to understand how much these opportunities mean to our marvellous troops.”
