Tigers join Matt Hampson at Get Busy Living Centre

The Get Busy Living Centre, a meeting place and rehabilitation centre for those who have suffered a life altering injury in sport, is a year away from completion and yesterday the construction site was littered with Tigers as the 2017/18 squad met for lunch and an update on the builds progress.

Alongside club legend Hambo were two of its most inspirational beneficiaries, Spencer Watts and Darrel White, who showed that the slogan Get Busy Living is more than a name to them but a driving force behind their incredible efforts each day.

Assistant coach Geordan Murphy was joined by Foundation ambassador and former Tigers lock Louis Deacon as they led the group through the site for what Hambo describes as, “a place to get people together to share experiences … to show you can live a good and very fulfilling life after a serious injury.”

In addition, the group were introduced to both Watts and White and their stories of incredible drive and determination in not allowing their injuries to stop their bids to live fulfilling lives. From hearing of White’s business venture and passion for food or watching Watts go from wheelchair to walking around the room, the next generation of Tigers were shown why Matt Hampson and his Foundation are as much a part of the #TigersFamily as anything else.

Which Hambo himself knows is important in continuing this great partnership.

“The older players knew what it was all about and have supported me since day one of my accident. But, we now have a new breed of Tiger coming through and this is about showing them what it’s all about,” Hampson told LTTV.

Something Murphy reiterated in his chat with LTTV from the site.

“Matt is so important to us. We talk about being a family team and Matt’s there, he’s part of it and helping the guys out every season,” the Tigers player turned coach said.

The player turned coach continued on, “it’s important that we support him as much as he supports us. He is one of the most inspirational people you’ll ever meet. Every time someone hears Matt speak, they walk away in a different mind space.”
