Tigers on tour - Clermont Ferrand

Figure image
The city of Clermont-Ferrand provided a chilly welcome for Leicester Tigers with temperatures barely above freezing on Saturday afternoon.

With the travelling support arriving in town, the red, white and green colours were in evidence, though mostly accompanied by scarves, hats and coats.

Forecasts for the weekend predict another cold day on Sunday, with freezing temperatures during the nights.

Supporters flying into Lyon came through icy patches in the closing kilometres of the two-hour journey into Clermont but arrived in time to see TV coverage of Tigers old boys Ian Humphreys and Julien Dupuy and Benjamin Kayser on opposite sides in the Ulster v Stade Francais match in Pool 4.

The Tigers faithful were also keeping an eye on proceedings in Italy, where the Ospreys claimed a bonus point with four first-half tries against Viadana. Victory would take the Welsh region above Tigers and Clermont Auvergne to the top of Pool 3 for at least 24 hours.

With groups of fans also arriving via flights into Limoges, train from Paris and coach, including the Tigers Travel Club members, support continued to build ahead of a vital clash in Round 3.

The Tigers on Tour diary will be updated throughout the weekend on the club website, or see twitter.com/leicesterrugby
