After beginning Saturday’s game in sixth place in the Premiership standings, Tigers had slipped to seventh with just 14 minutes remaining as they trailed Quins while London Irish were ahead in their match at Sale. However, a 66th-minute try from Jordan Crane secured the try-scoring bonus-point Tigers needed to at least reclaim sixth spot before a Tom Varndell effort capped a remarkable comeback to snatch a semi-final berth.
“There was a time when we went two scores down and Quins were looking to break us again but we showed some real resilience,” says Corry, whose Tigers team travel to Gloucester for Sunday’s Guinness Premiership semi-final.
“We gave them a couple of soft tries, which was disappointing, but, when the game was in the balance and we were close to going too far behind, the way everyone kept plugging away was the most pleasing aspect.
“We had to maintain our composure, show patience and have the confidence that, if we could stay in their territory, eventually the scores would come. Thankfully, they did. We’ll take confidence from the result and we know that if we can go to Gloucester and produce our A game, then we’ll be a difficult team to beat.”
