Tigers' response to ticketing concerns

Leicester Tigers have released the following statement in response to concerns from supporters regarding the allocation of tickets for the Heineken Cup Final at Twickenham on May 20:

Leicester Tigers managing director David Clayton said the club was very disappointed that less than 9,500 tickets have been made available to the club for the Heineken Cup Final.

"We can fully understand the annoyance of our supporters over this allocation, and with in excess of 15,000 members it means many will be unable to buy a ticket to the final," he said. "We will, however, continue to push ERC for additional tickets."

Ticketing allocation and pricing for the Heineken Cup Final is the responsibility of tournament organisers European Rugby Cup Ltd.

ERC made tickets for the final available for public sale in May 2006 and report that 63,000 seats (56,000 through public sale and 7,000 allocated to European rugby stakeholders) are already accounted for. The finalists share the remaining 19,000.

ERC chief executive Derek McGrath has said that there was a huge response from fans wanting to be part of the occasion when Twickenham was announced as the final venue and that their aim each year is to create the best possible showcase event for the tournament, the two teams, supporters, partners and broadcasters.

ERC promote the game for 12 months with the target of the bumper crowd and the best possible atmosphere.

Leicester Tigers were originally informed that 15,000 tickets would be shared between the finalists but, after making representations to ERC, the clubs have managed to have this figure increased to 19,000.

Tigers will begin selling their allocation to season ticket holders only on Thursday, April 26. More details can be found on the club's official website at www.leicestertigers.com
