Leicester Tigers secured a try-scoring bonus point with a dominant first-half display to lead Benetton Treviso 40-0 in the Heineken Cup at Welford Road today.

Tigers scored six tries during the first 40 minutes with two tries each for wing Scott Hamilton and captain Aaron Mauger, a Matt Smith effort and a penalty try.

Fly-half Toby Flood, who went into this weekend’s fixtures as the leading points scorer in this season’s Heineken Cup, added five conversions from six attempts.

Tigers scored the four tries they needed for the bonus point within the first 26 minutes of today’s Pool 3 game. In doing so, they secured the second-fastest try-scoring bonus point in the competition’s history.

Martin Castrogiovanni made his first start of the season in the front row after returning from injury. Flanker Ben Woods, who has scored four tries in two Development XV games after recovering from a knee injury, made his first Tigers start since the Heineken Cup win over the Ospreys in October. Ben Youngs took over at scrum-half while England international Jordan Crane returned to the back row.
