Leicester Tigers are teaming up with ABF The Soldiers' Charity at the Guinness Premiership match against London Irish at Welford Road on Saturday, March 6.

ABF The Soldiers' Charity – formerly The Army Benevolent Fund – provides support for soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need.

On March 6, the charity’s red wristbands will be on sale around Welford Road stadium and Tigers will make a donation to the fund via the club’s Cashback Scheme.

There will also be an appearance by the Leicestershire & Rutland County Pipe Band.

Lieutenant Colonel Jack Tarr OBE, regional director of fund-raising for ABF The Soldiers' Charity, said: “We’re delighted to be able to join Leicester Tigers for such a big game, and to help increase awareness and fund-raising for this worthy cause.

“The fund provides an immediate lifeline for recipients, but we also look to the future, finding the best ways to give medical, technical and financial support for those who sacrifice so much for us.

“There has been a big rise in people seeking our help and we expect this to increase.

“Soldiers are our family and the support we give makes a huge difference to their lives.”

Leicester Tigers chairman Peter Tom CBE said: “As a club, we have long-standing links with the Armed Services and we are very happy to welcome this tie-in with ABF The Soldiers' Charity for the match against London Irish.

“This game between last year’s Guinness Premiership finalists will attract another big crowd to Welford Road and I’m sure supporters from both sides will be generous in their backing of the charity.”

Tigers claimed a record eighth English league title last May after a 10-9 Guinness Premiership Final win over London Irish at Twickenham and both teams are again chasing places in the end-of-season play-offs.
