Tigers top of the class in Try Tuesdays Pub Quiz

George Chuter led the Leicester Tigers players to a dramatic victory in the Try Tuesdays Pub Quiz at Welford Road on Tuesday - with the aid of a sudden-death tiebreak question.

A total of 48 teams took part in the Pub Quiz in Final Whistle, supported by Everards, with the players coming out on top with the correct answer to the last question of the evening.

Chuter captained a team including Scott Hamilton, Julian Salvi, Thomas Waldrom, Owen Williams, Miles Benjamin, Sam Harrison, Michael Noone and Scott Steele.

After seven rounds of competition, the players were level with the ‘Mad Ferrets’ team but won on a tie-break after correctly stating the age of Winter Olympic medallist Jenny Jones. Chuter wrote ‘33’ as the players’ answer, with the runners-up just one year out after writing ‘32’.

Skipper Chuter was joined by his colleagues to collect the trophy donated by Everards, while there was also a Wooden Spoon prize for the last of the 48 teams.

Among the general knowledge rounds was a ‘Guess The Movie’ challenge, based on artwork drawn by other members of the Tigers squad. The artwork was raffled durintg the evening, as well as signed posters, Matt Hampson Foundation calendars and a special Tigers Family cartoon signed by Richard Cockerill.

The next supporters’ event is Try Tuesdays Try Comedy on Tuesday, March 18, featuring comedians Rob Rouse, Chris Stokes and Ahir Shah, plus compere Lloyd Griffith. Doors open at 6.30pm and anyone arriving before 7.15pm can claim a free pint of Everards Tigers, official beer of the Leicester Tigers. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are £8 per person.

A new event is organised for April 1 when Try Tuesdays presents Tigers Afternoon Tea at John Lewis in Highcross Shopping Centre (3.30-5.30pm). This exclusive event includes hot drink, sandwiches, sweets and cakes, the opportunity to meet Tigers players, cake decorating workshop and a John Lewis goodie bag. Tickets are £20 per person.

The final – and biggest – event of the season is the Try Tuesdays End of Season Awards Night on Tuesday, April 29 at Welford Road in the company of the entire Tigers squad. This evening includes three-course meal with a Tigers player at your table, the chance to present an award and hear from the winners of the five major awards as well as vote for your Try of the Season. Tickets are £45 for season ticket holders, £55 for all other supporters, and are always in big demand.
