Tigers trio earn starting spot for England

Figure image
George Chuter, Dan Hipkiss and Martin Corry have all been named in England's starting XV for this Saturday's re-match against France in Marseille (kick-off 8pm BST).

Hipkiss will win his second cap at outside centre having made his debut in the 62-5 crushing of Wales, while Corry starts at No.6, just as he did against the Welsh a fortnight ago.

Tigers hooker Chuter makes his first start of the warm-up fixtures, replacing Bristol's Mark Regan who wore the No.2 shirt in England's previous two outings this month. Chuter is joined in the front row by captain Phil Vickery and French-based Perry Freshwater, with Sale's Andrew Sheridan ruled out due to an infected insect bite.

Nick Easter and Tom Rees start alongside Corry, with Steve Borthwick and Simon Shaw in the second row.

In the backs, Hipkiss is partnered by former rugby league star Andy Farrell, while Jonny Wilkinson and Shaun Perry form the half-back pairing. Mark Cueto begins at full back, with Josh Lewsey and Jason Robinson on the wings.

"It's a big game for Dan Hipkiss, and Mike Catt had a reasonable game last week so it's a big game for Andy Farrell as well," said England head coach Brian Ashton. "George Chuter obviously, Mark Regan's played two pretty decent games, Ben Kay was outstanding last week and Steve Borthwick has now got to show that he can do the same against France.

"And Nick Easter now gets the opportunity to start a game and, rather than riding around in an armchair like he did against Wales, possibly spend at least half the game on the back foot and we can see how he deals with that."
