Tigers wheelchair rugby team ready for 2019

Leicester Tigers wheelchair rugby team are back in action this weekend at Stoke Mandeville as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2018/19 Super Series.

The second Super Series Division One weekend takes place across two days with the group stages taking place on Saturday, January 26 before the semi-final and finals on Sunday, January 27.

Tigers claimed top spot in the squad’s last league outing in October as the club sent a message to their league rivals with an undefeated weekend at Fenton Manor Sport Complex in Stoke-on-Trent.

The club, who are partnered with Hafele, will be hoping to build on an impressive start to the season, and head coach Darren Matthews is taking nothing for granted.

“Nothing changes really”, he says. “It’s about making them small improvements at every Super Series. It was good to see our newest recruits, such as Leon (Jørgensen) in action, the impact they can have but also how they suit our style of play.

“We’ve got two weekends of fixtures close together, which is great for building momentum. We had a good break over the festive period, both at club and international level, so we’re ready to get back into it.”

The Super Series calendar is made up of three weekend competitions and the sport returns to Leicester for its final set of fixtures on February 9-10 at Leicester Arena.

The event is free to attend and further details of timings will be shared nearer the time.
