Leicester Tigers senior players, staff and supporters have shared their pride in the Academy squad’s grand final glory across social media, following the 22-point win over Gloucester on Sunday afternoon.

Club-captain Tom Youngs, his brother and England scrum-half Ben Youngs and fellow England representative Ellis Genge were just three of the senior Tigers to congratulate the Academy players and coaches on the undefeated season which ended in grand final glory thanks to a dominant, six-try display from the Leicester side.

The Youngs brothers are both graduates from the Tigers Academy before progressing through the ranks at English Rugby’s most decorated club, as well as being capped at both international and British Lions level.

Tom Youngs posted a pre-match message on his Twitter account wishing the Academy well in their grand final encounter with Gloucester, in his own unique way by posting, “All the best to the Tigers Academy lads in today’s GF against Gloucester. You’ve done the club proud so far this season and no doubts you will today. Rip in!!”

Fellow Academy graduate Harry Wells joined his skipper pre-match in sending good luck tweets to the young Tigers, with the Tigers lock posting, “Massive good luck to all the @LeiceserTigers U18 lads playing in the Academy League Finals today.”

Following the win, Leicester’s leader was quick to post his praise for the league-winning team.

“Well done to the Tigers Academy on their Grand Final win over Gloucester … future is bright for the #TigersFamily,” Tom Youngs tweeted.

Scrum-half Ben Youngs, who is currently working on a return to the pitch after suffering a knee injury in England’s opening Six Nations fixture against Italy, joined his brother in congratulating the young side when he tweeted, “Well done boys fantastic effort” in response to the full-time score announcement from the Leicester club’s account.

Another Tiger on the way back from injury, Ellis Genge, then followed his senior team mates in posting about the result in only the way ‘Gengey’ can.

“The young @LeicesterTigers doing absolute bits, cherish those moments boys don’t come around often” he said.

In addition to the playing group, CEO Simon Cohen joined the chorus of Tigers family to send their congratulations to the side when he tweeted, “Great result. Well done to the whole squad, coaches and support staff.”

Supporters, both present at the ground and those unable to attend who followed the fixture online with Matchday LIVE, and Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team also made their pride known in the young Tigers side.

“Fantastic result. Have a great night all,” tweeted Tigers fan @ShaunGibson19.

“Congratulations to the Academy team. Massively deserved,” posted the Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Team.

Meanwhile, Twitter user @simonthespud posted, “Congrats to the @LeicesterTigers Academy. Awesome.”
