The Leicester Tigers head coach was named Hilton Director of Rugby of the Season at the Guinness Premiership ceremony at the Hilton Park Lane on Tuesday evening, after leading his side into the Guinness Premiership semi-finals and the final of the Heineken Cup.
Cockerill, who took over at Welford Road following Heyneke Meyer’s return to South Africa, beat competition from Harlequins’ Dean Richards and London Irish’s Toby Booth for the top award.
Cockerill said: “Matt O’Connor and Paul Burke and the rest of the staff at Leicester have done a great job. This award is about them.
“I have taken over halfway through the year and there has been a lot of work done by a lot of other people and only a small percentage by me.”
Tigers scrum-half Ben Youngs finished third in the Land Rover Discovery of the Season award.
Harlequins centre Jordan Turner-Hall was the panel’s winner with Newcastle Falcons scrum-half Micky Young second.
Quins landed a double when flanker Chris Robshaw was named the Guinness Premiership of the Season ahead.
London Irish full-back Delon Armitage finished second and Bath wing Joe Maddock, who was The Times Top Try Scorer with 11, was third. Tigers and England back row Tom Croft and London Irish centre Seilala Mapasua were also nominated.
Tigers forwards Marcos Ayerza and Ben Kay were named in the front five in the Sky Sports Dream Team.
David Lemi, the Bristol wing, took the Bank of America Try of the Season award for his opening-round effort against Bath Rugby at the Memorial Ground. Glen Jackson of Saracens won the Gilbert Golden Boot, Bath’s Danny Grewcock won the EDF Community Player of the Season and Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe claimed the Gatorade Performance of the Season award for his display against London Wasps on Boxing Day.
