Tigers community coaches will be running tag fun sessions, which are free to join and for players in school years three, four and five.
The event runs from 10am to noon on Sunday (June 12) at Lutterworth’s home ground in Ashby Lane, Bitteswell, and all pupils in years three, four and five at schools in the area are invited to attend. There will also be a chance for the young players to sign up to the Junior Tigers Club for free.
The event is the culmination of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme, which Tigers coaches have been running in schools around the Lutterworth area.
The programme included a six-week introduction to rugby and Tigers work with teachers to continue with tag once they move on to new areas. Sets of equipment and teaching resources are also distributed.
Ten schools took part in the programme, with eight of them entering a tag rugby festival hosted at Lutterworth, won by Badgerbrook and Husbands Bosworth.
By holding the fun day, Tigers and Lutterworth RFC hope to encourage young players to continue playing the sport.
"Lutterworth have offered excellent support," says Tigers rugby development officer Benjamin Woods. "The local club structure is vital to ensure the legacy of the programme."
The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme is run by all 12 Premiership Rugby clubs. The programme represents a significant investment by Aviva into grass-roots rugby that will go towards supporting more than 15,000 man hours of coaching and reaching more than 36,000 pupils aged 9-11 years old from 600 primary schools in England over each of the next four seasons.
