Leicester Tigers academy forwards Cameron Jordan and George Martin have been named in the England Under-18s squad.

The 42-player squad features six members of the England Under-18 group that toured South Africa last August, while Tigers prop Joe Heyes and fly-half Tom Hardwick have moved up an age-group since then to win first caps at Under-20s level this season.

Oakham School student Jordan made his Tigers senior debut in the Anglo-Welsh Cup match against Wasps this month and is joined in the England squad by second-row partner Martin who attends Brooksby Melton College.

Both players have played a prominent part in the Tigers team which has been unbeaten in the Academy Under-18 League and secured top spot with victory over Newcastle Falcons on Saturday. They are now looking forward to a national final against Gloucester next month.

England Under-18s open their season against France in Digne-les-Bains on March 2 and then face fixtures against Scotland on March 18 at Stirling County and Wales a week later  in Pontypridd. They then take part in the Six Nations Festival in Wales with further games against Scotland, Italy and France.

An England Regional Academy Under-17s squad has also been announced with camps in February and April before a training fixture against Scotland on April 22 in Newcastle.

England Under-18 head coach John Fletcher said: “We’ve coached and assessed players in our pre-Christmas camps as well as watching the seven rounds of under-18 academy games and have come up with a group of exciting young players.

“Along with their regional academies, we want to support them with their individual development and expose them to an international environment, which we will be doing over the next six games. Everyone will get an opportunity to play a significant role in the games.

“This is the start of their international journey and we want them to go out and have fun and express themselves.

“The CARDS (Creativity, Awareness, Resilience, Decision making and Self-organising) are the priority skills of the under-18 programme. We feel they are the most important skills for this stage in their development so they will be the centre of everything we do on and off the pitch.”
