The final act of the Leicester Music Festival (LMF) has been announced with reggae-pop favourites UB40 joining Labrinth, Tinie Tempah and Professor Green on the Welford Road bill.

Featuring original founding members Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, UB40 have been added to the line-up for the inaugural LMF, in partnership with Capital FM East Midlands.

UB40 have sold more than 70 million records and recorded UK number one hits with Red Red Wine, Can’t Help Falling in Love and I got You Babe. They also had top 10 hits with the likes of One in Ten, Sing Our Own Song and Homely Girl.

LMF will be held at the home of Leicester Tigers on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 26 and a capacity of 22,000 festival-goers will be permitted on each day.

Tinie Tempah will headline the Friday night, with Professor Green, Katy B, Soul II Soul, Billy Ocean and Aswad all performing.

Saturday’s show is headlined by global superstar Labrinth. Joining him will be Union J, The Saturdays, Sam Bailey, The Real Thing, Kool and the Gang, Stereo Nation, with UB40 completing Saturday’s line-up.

Dance sensation Diversity will be performing on both days of the festival.

Shane Whitfield, co-founder of the Leicester Music Festival (LMF), said: “UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, are the perfect complement to our already impressive line-up for LMF.

“Everyone we speak to is getting excited about being at the first-ever LMF. The whole city is behind making this an annual event and now we’re another step closer to the big occasion.”

The final rounds of a competition in which local bands battle it out for a chance to perform at LMF is also underway. More than 100 unsigned bands entered Play @ LMF with the two winners being announced in June.
