Unlucky Brady sidelined by surgery

Head coach Matt O’Connor has revealed that wing Tom Brady has had a setback in his full recovery from an ankle injury suffered at the end of last season.

Brady’s 2016/17 campaign was ended early by the injury picked up in an ‘A’ League fixture in April but, after recovery from initial surgery, he played in the two home games of the pre-season programme as he pushed for a return to first-team contention.

The former Sale Sharks wing, though, has been sidelined again since aggravating the ankle during the game against Ospreys in August.

“Tom looked in pretty good shape in pre-season,” said O’Connor. “But he’s had a bit of complication with the plate in his ankle which they are now removing and he will be out of action for a month or so.”

Harry Thacker, Graham Kitchener and Adam Thompstone are among the current absentees and are expected back in coming weeks. Mike Fitzgerald and Manu Tuilagi are recovering after surgery on knee injuries and are scheduled to return to fitness during December.
