Veainu features in OPTA Rugby Rankings

Telusa Veainu’s run to the line for his first try of the season helped the Leicester Tigers full-back top the table for most metres so far this campaign.

The OPTA Rugby Rankings show that Veainu made 73m in the win against Harlequins, the most by a Tigers player in the game.

It took his total to 408m, the most by any player after the first four rounds of the Aviva Premiership season.

Veainu is joint second in terms of defenders beaten with 20, four behind Jack Nowell (Exeter Chiefs) after beating nine players at the Twickenham Stoop, the second most in Round Four. Ben Youngs beat six defenders to take his total to 13, while Ellis Genge has beaten 14 defenders so for in the campaign.

The Tigers full-back is also second for the number of carries (65) with his Tigers teammate Sione Kalamafoni third with 63. Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints) leads with 66 carries.

Kalamafoni is the second highest tackler across the league. His 14 tackles against Quins took his total to 60, three behind Gloucester Rugby’s Lewis Ludlow.

Dom Barrow was Tigers’ top tackler at the Stoop (15), with Matt Smith and Tom Youngs (both 14) and George Ford (13) also featuring high in the OPTA Rugby Rankings.

Ford is now Tigers’ second top tackler with 43, and he won two turnovers against Quins, the most by a Leicester player in the game.

Fly-half Ford is also the third top points scorer with 39, including 16 at the Stoop, just behind Bath Rugby’s Rhys Priestland (42) and Harlequins’ Marcus Smith (39).
