Wasps opt for experience

Figure image
Ian McGeechan has gone for experience in his London Wasps team for the Heineken Cup Final against Leicester Tigers at Twickenham on Sunday.

With prop Tim Payne unavailable following surgery to a knee injury, Phil Vickery lines up at loosehead, with Irishman Peter Bracken on the tight. Young loosehead specialist Tom French wins a place on the bench.

The back five in the pack forwards remain unchanged from Wasps' last three European encounters and has an all-international look as Simon Shaw and Tom Palmer are named at lock, with Joe Worsley, Tom Rees and captain Lawrence Dallaglio in the back row.

Scrum-half Eoin Reddan is joined by fly-half Alex King who makes his 50th Heineken Cup appearance. Due to a knee injury, King has not played since the quarter-final win over Leinster but he has trained fully in the last two weeks.

Josh Lewsey partners Fraser Waters at centre, with Danny Cipriani at full-back and Paul Sackey and Tom Voyce completing the back three.

"It is going to be a great occasion," said McGeechan. "For the first time it will be two English clubs meeting on the biggest stage in club rugby, and the healthy rivalry between Wasps and Leicester will undoubtedly add even more spice to the occasion."
