Staying fit and healthy – both mentally and physically – can be tough in current circumstances with working and social lives affected by the Coronavirus. And that is why we’re sharing our FitFans tips and tricks with the Leicester Tigers community.

FitFans is a club-led initiative designed to get supporters of all ages active, even at home. We’ll post new sessions to LeicesterTigers.com every Tuesday, so check back regularly for your FitFans fix!

Thoughts of the sesh: ‘HIIT’ Tunes

This week’s session is based on eight different exercises, 25 seconds on and 15 seconds off, on repeat. Put some music on, get into the swing of it and see how you go.

Food of the week: Turkey Breast

Turkey is one of the most protein-rich meats with the lowest fat quantity, making it one of the best ways to maintain or increase muscle mass. Most of the fat in turkey and chicken is in the skin, with 70 per cent of it found there. These are not the ‘healthy fats’ our bodies need either, so remember to always remove the skins before you start.

Fun Facts

  • Turkey has a high amount of protein, vitamin B6 and amino acid
  • Eating turkey aids towards a healthy immune system and an increased metabolism
  • High in iron, potassium and phosphorus

Exercise of the week: High Intensity Music Workout

Our FitFans exercise will change weekly and will always be something you can do at home.

If you can’t quite remember how to do an exercise, they’re all easy to find on the internet.

Star Jumps

Side Lunges

Push-up and Reach Superman

High Knees

Russian Twists

Lying Bicycles

Jumping Lunges

Plank Jacks

For each exercise, this week’s aim is to do 25 seconds on, followed by 15 seconds off. Keep repeating the cycle until the song stops.

Here’s a tip – start with a slow song and match the rhythm of each exercise to the beat of the tune. Then increase to a medium paced song and finish with a faster beat.

Take breaks between each song.

Above all else, enjoy it, and don’t forget to always stretch properly after exercise.
