Ed Slater says Leicester Tigers will be looking for a big improvement on the performance in victory at Worcester last weekend when they return to European Champions Cup action on Saturday.Tigers scored four tries in a 29-20 win over Worcester Warriors to extend their league run to five wins in six rounds this season, but club captain Slater says they will have to be at another level for the trip to Thomond Park to face Munster.
“We got maximum points at Worcester and that is what counts at the end of the season, but from a performance point of view, there is a lot to improve on going to Munster,” said Slater who this week agreed terms on a new contract at the club.
“We reviewed the game and we weren’t too happy with how we played so it’s nice to have a change of focus going into Europe.”
After leading the Tigers into action for the first time this season at Sixways, Slater admits to being excited by the opportunity to be part of a Tigers squad at Thomond Park, one of the iconic homes of European rugby, this week.
“I’ve never had a chance to play at Thomond Park or against Munster in a competitive game, so I’m excited about it,” he said.
“We know a lot about their spirit and it's an exciting challenge against a very competitive Munster side.”
Reflecting on his agreement with the club on a new contract, Slater added: “I love playing for this club and, once you heard about some of the signings we’re making, like Matt Toomua, and then guys like Ben Youngs, Manu Tuilagi and Freddie Burns committing, it makes the decision even easier. I think it reflects the way we are playing at the moment and where we are as a club.”
