We'll take the positives in attack - Cockerill

An injury-time score at Adams Park on Sunday tempered the disappointment of defeat by London Wasps as Leicester Tigers grabbed two vital points against the defending Guinness Premiership champions.

Acting head coach Richard Cockerill saw Tigers grab a fourth try of the afternoon in the last move of the match and said: “With 90 seconds to go in the game we had nothing, but we kept going until the death and we came away with two points, we scored four tries and we played some pretty good stuff at times.

“The attitude was to be positive and not go into our shells, and we did that.

“It was a good, full-blooded contest and I thought we played some good stuff. But we made some basic errors and coughed up some soft points, and some decisions went against us.”

Tigers trailed 33-17 with less than 15 minutes of the contest remaining, before Jordan Crane added to earlier tries from Scott Hamilton and Sam Vesty.

Then Johne Murphy capitalised on an injury-time break from fellow replacement Ben Youngs to score and grab one bonus point, which fly-half Vesty converted into two with a kick which reduced the losing margin to seven points at 36-29.

“We have lost just as few games as the teams above us in the table, but we have got fewer bonus points,” added Cockerill.
“But we have got some very good players and a lot of talent will be added to that side.

“Wasps are a good side, with a good defence, and we scored four tries. We’ll take the positives from our attacking game and look to cut out some of the errors.

“There are nine games to go in the league and this season is still very much alive for us in the Guinness Premiership and the Heineken Cup.”

Tigers return to home soil on Saturday when Worcester Warriors are the visitors. Kick-off is at 3pm and tickets are available now. Contact the Tigers ticket office on 08701 28 34 30, book online or call in at Welford Road.
