We're focused on the run-in, says Parling

Geoff Parling says the focus is firmly on Leicester Tigers' return to Aviva Premiership action this weekend after the completion of the Six Nations and the LV= Cup Final.

Tigers travel to London Irish on Sunday (3pm kick off) for the first of Tigers’ last five fixtures in the Aviva Premiership.

Tigers are currently third in the table ahead of this weekend’s Round 18 of matches while London Irish, who are expecting a bumper crowd for their St Patrick’s Day fixture, are targeting a place in next season’s Heineken Cup.

And Parling says: “We are focused on this game on Sunday. We know Irish have lots of dangerous runners in the backline who can win one-on-one battles if you give them chance, time and space.

“They have a solid set-piece. They are at home. They will be fired up. They will want to get stuck into us.

“We have to make sure we go down there with the right mindset, which I am sure we will, and make sure we try to impose ourselves. I am really looking forward to it.”

Parling played in all of England’s games as they finished second in the RBS 6 Nations Championship with four wins from five fixtures.

The Tigers lock said it was brilliant to represent his country after making his international debut in the opening fixture against Scotland at Murrayfield.

“There was a big buzz around the whole England squad and that whole environment but it is back to work now at Leicester,” says Parling.

“My main feeling was relief that I had finally got the chance. I just wanted to make sure I grasped it.

“It was brilliant but that has gone now. I am fully focused on the run-in to this season and hopefully winning some silverware with Leicester.”

Parling, who watched Sunday’s LV= Cup Final from the stands at Sixways, says he hopes it can be a springboard to more success this season.

“The attitude from the lads was outstanding,” he says. “It’s great to be there with them on the pitch at the end. It was good to get some silverware and it was also important to get that win in terms of pushing on for the rest of the season in terms of the confidence.

“I think that the way the lads have been playing the last couple of months has been awesome, just to keep that run going.”

Tigers return to Welford Road on Friday, March 30 (7.45pm) when they host Worcester Warriors. Book your seats now on 0844 856 1880 or online by clicking here
