Leicester Tigers will welcome double world champion wheelchair racer Sammi Kinghorn to Welford Road as the guest speaker at next month's Business Club event on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.
In association with club partner Mattioli Woods, places are now available to here from our upcoming guest speakers at an exclusive lunch at Welford Road in which members will hear from Sammi as she shares her journey to becoming world champion.
Sammi Kinghorn, who celebrated her birthday earlier this month, took up wheelchair racing in 2011, following an accident on the farm in the Scottish Borders where her family lived when she was 14 years old. The accident left her unable to walk, but after being introduced to the sport she hasn’t looked back.
Sammi competes in the T53 classification and in 2017 she became Double World Champion at the London 2017 World Championships. She is also currently a World Record Holder over 200m, a multiple European record holder and a Paralympian; following her debut at Rio 2016.
2018 saw her race at the Commonwealth Games in only her second ever marathon and over the 1500m, placing 4th in both races, a huge feat for a sprint athlete. She is now focusing on returning to shorter distances.
Sammi has won numerous awards including the Sunday Mail Sports Personality of the Year, Team Scotland’s Sportsperson of the Year and British Athletics Writers Association Female Para Athlete of the Year.
