Youngs moves back into the front line

Tom Youngs went from Sedgeley Park to Sixways last week, and was keen to make the most of his opportunity in the Tigers line-up.

The centre confirmed his recovery from injury by scoring a try for Bedford in the win over Sedgeley Park in National League One but then seven days later received the call to join the Tigers backline for the Guinness Premiership match against Worcester Warriors after a late injury to Dan Hipkiss.

“It was an interesting game to come into, coming up against two experienced guys like Rasmussen and Tuitipo in the centres,” said Youngs.

“You have to take the contact with guys like that and also make your tackles when they have the ball.

“It was great to have experienced guys like Goodey and Ollie (Smith) on each side of me, they were talking to me all the way through.

“But it is hard to feel good about your own opportunity when you’ve lost a game like that. You first of all want to win the game so I am pretty disappointed.”

Worcester made it back-to-back wins after previously recording a surprise victory over Sale Sharks at Edgeley Park, but it merely provided proof of what a win can do for a team’s confidence and self-belief.

“Worcester went to Sale, won that game, and then brought that confidence into the game against us and got a second win,” said Youngs. “It is a tough time to tackle a team like that but now we have to focus on bouncing back again.”
