The Leicester Tigers centre, playing as a forward in the abridged version of the game, started every game for England as they ended the Sevens season with a final appearance.
They lost 24-14 to IRB World Series winners New Zealand in the final, fighting back from a 19-0 half-time deficit to push their rivals all the way.
Coach Ben Ryan said: "This is our first final this season and a lot of the process is about being used to finals. The boys have come on so much, 12 months ago we got battered by New Zealand, so this shows how far we have come.
"England can be a real force next season, come the next World Series and the World Cup in Dubai, England will hopefully be right up there at the top of the tree."
England started the weekend with a 22-0 win over Portugal and their other pool-stage matches brought a 17-17 draw with Russia after coming from 12-0 down, and a 21-12 defeat by New Zealand.
South Africa were beaten 10-0 in the quarter-final and then England beat Wales 7-0 in the last four.
