Leicester Tigers Senior Academy suffered a narrow 19-24 loss to Leinster Schools in a tightly contested match at Tigers' Oval Park training ground.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring early on, with a try in the 10th minute; Tigers quickly regathered themselves and responded, a try from second-row George Marsh and subsequent conversion by fly-half Freddie Snary, levelling the scores just seven minutes later.
Leinster then edged back in front with a well-taken penalty twenty minutes later, ending the 35 minute half ahead by three points.
Tigers came roaring out of the blocks in the second-half, scrum-half Jack Dickens going over and his half-back partner Snary adding the extras to bring the score to 14-10 just four minutes after returning to the field.
The second-half turned attritional following this, neither side able to strike for nearly 20 minutes until Leinster nudged back ahead with a converted try just before the clock turned 60.
Not willing to allow themselves to fold that easily, Tigers struck back almost immediately, a try by substitute Euan Fern four minutes later bringing the home side to just two points ahead with less than 10 minutes to go.
However, it was not to be as Leicester struck the decisive blow with just a couple of minutes left, a converted try ending a hard-fought match at 19-24.
