Children from three Leicestershire schools are set to battle it out at Welford Road to be crowned this season's Alliance and Leicester Tag champions.

Burton on the Wolds Primary School, St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, from Coalville, and Leicester’s Richard Hill CofE Primary school, will go head to head before Leicester Tigers home Guinness Premiership game against Sale on Saturday.

The three schools won their respective area titles earlier in the season and will return to Welford Road with the aim of being crowned A&L Tag champions for 2008/09.

Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: “It promises to be a very special and exciting day for everyone involved.

“All three schools have done extremely well to get this far. They have played some thrilling rugby and overcome some very good sides on the way, and I am sure there will be plenty more thrills and spills on the day.”

Burton on the Wolds reached this season’s final after winning the Burleigh Partnership in front of a large Welford Road crowd two weeks ago. St Clare’s are the North West Leicestershire champions while Richard Hill landed the South Charnwood title.

Clarke said: “A&L Tag is a hugely popular programme and all of the children have thrown themselves into it with great enthusiasm."

Saturday’s winners will then go through to face the winners from the two previous seasons – and – before Tigers final regular Guinness Premiership game of the season against Bristol on April 25. The winners will be crowned A&L Tag champion of champions.

Tigers’ Alliance and Leicester Tag is a three-year rolling programme that sees Tigers deliver tag rugby coaching to every school in Leicestershire and Rutland. So far, more than 60,000 children have enjoyed an introduction to rugby through the programme.
