Academy press pause on nominations

Nominations for the Leicester Tigers academy will be delayed due to the Coronavirus situation.

During April, local schools and rugby clubs are usually encouraged to nominate young players for consideration for next season’s under-14 group at Tigers. But the impact of the global pandemic means there will a change this year.

Greg Mannion, Tigers junior academy manager, explains: “Given the current climate and the shutdown of rugby activity at grassroots and schools levels, the club has decided to delay nominations for next season’s under-14s.

“This group is the first step along the pathway at the club and we have strong tradition of bringing players through the academy into the senior team so it is disappointing to delay the nominations process for this year. But, I’m sure everyone will understand it has been forced by the effects of the Coronavirus not just on ourselves but also our local clubs and schools.

“The club will maintain a review of the situation and we will announce further details when appropriate.”
