Academy squad comes together on French camp

The Leicester Tigers academy squad have enjoyed a week-long training camp in France, climaxing with matches against counterparts from Montpellier and ASM Clermont Auvergne.

The squad from the senior section of the academy worked with coaches Dave Wilks, Jamie Taylor and Anthony Allen throughout the week and ended with a set of fixtures against French opposition played over 35 minutes each.

Montpellier were beaten 15-7 and then Tigers secured a 24-7 victory over Clermont at the end of the round-robin matches.

Ged Glynn, head of rugby operations, said: “It was a very good week with the players coming together well as a group. As well as their rugby, they enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, archery and climbing, and a lot of them come out with massive credit.

“The games were played in 35-degree heat against physical French opposition and they came through well.

“The coaches will have a lot more knowledge about them and it is a good benchmark for the pre-season period.”
