Tigers Academy will again welcome international opposition to Welford Road when they take on USA Under-20s in their first home game of the season.

The Academy last season hosted Wales Under-18s and Under-19 England Academies while Wales and Scotland Under-18s were visitors during the 2008/09 season.

The Academy will play USA Under-20s on Saturday, August 21 (kick-off 1pm) and manager Neil McCarthy says playing at Welford Road will be a good experience for his young players.

“Any opportunity to play at Welford Road is fantastic for the lads,” said McCarthy. “It is great for the guys to experience, everything from playing in front of a massive stand to the preparation involved.

“The USA will be a different rugby culture for them to experience. The stuff we have been doing over the summer we will be trying to put into this game.

“We have some new lads we are trying to integrate and we are looking forward to it.”

Entry to the game is free and supporters will be seated in the Caterpillar Stand.

In their next game, Tigers Academy will take on Leinster at Oval Park on Friday, August 27 (4pm), before Tigers play Leinster at Welford Road (7.30pm) in their final fixture before the start of the new season.
