Another action-filled Prima Cup weekend

Under-10 youth teams from across the country took part in two Prima Tiger Cup events last weekend, including eight in action at Welford Road after Tigers 16-13 win over Gloucester Rugby in the Gallagher Premiership.

Fourteen teams also took part in a Prima Tiger Cup festival held at Mellish RFC on Sunday with two teams invited back to play at Welford Road later in the season.

Supported by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, the Prima Tiger Cup is a free-to-enter contact-based fun event open to all clubs at under-10 level (RFU defined).

Celebrating its 25th year last year, the event takes place over four festivals covering the Tigers academy region and beyond. Throughout these festivals Tigers will look to identify clubs who demonstrate the true ethos of the game under our event criteria in keeping with the RFU Age Grade Rules and guidelines.

The teams who took part in the Bowl and Shield games after Tigers hosted Gloucester included Crusaders, Loughborough, Market Harborough and North Walsham in the Bowl and Beccles, Oakham, Stoneygate and Woodbridge in the Shield.

Market Harborough have been invited back to play in the Prima Tiger Bowl and Stoneygate in the Prima Tiger Shield at Welford Road later in the season.

Whilst teams at the festival held at Mellish RFC included Derby, Ilkeston, Kesteven, Lincoln, Mansfield, Newark, Notts Corsairs, Paviours, Sleaford, Silhillians, Southwell, Spalding, Stamford and hosts Mellish.

Players have also meet Tigers players joined youngsters at festivals at local clubs. Centre Jaco Taute attended the festival at Diss RFC, scrum-half Sam Harrison joined players at the festival at Leicester Forest and back-row Jordan Coghlan was at Mellish RFC.

Silhillians and Ilkeston are invited back to play in the Cup, Newark and Stamford in the Bowl and Southwell and Spalding in the Shield. These teams have also been invited back to participate in a series of games to be played at Welford Road later in the season.

Due to waterlogged pitches the festival planned to be held at Tamworth RFC on Sunday, October 27 had to be postponed. This event will now be held on Sunday, January 19 ahead of the fixtures to be played at Welford Road.

Attracting more than 70 entries each season, the Prima Tiger Cup is the largest and most prestigious single age-group playing opportunity in the rugby calendar.
