International Wrap-Up | Autumn 2021, Week 2

Five of six Leicester Tigers senior squad members representing the club on the international stage enjoyed victories in Round 2 of the 2021 Autumn Series.

In the first of back-to-back-to-back fixtures on Saturday, Jasper Wiese got one-up on his club-mate Matt Scott with South Africa defeating Scotland 30-15 in Edinburgh.

Wiese came off the bench in the 74th minute to help secure the Springboks a second successive victory on their northern hemisphere tour and put an end to Scotland's two-match winning streak.

Tigers midfielder Scott, who made his first Test appearance in four years, played 71 minutes at inside centre for the home side and was at his menacing best in defence for the Scots, topping the tackle count in the backline and making a turnover.

South Africa now travel to England for their final fixture of the tour at Twickenham.

In the second of the three matches, Argentina defeated Italy by 21 points in Treviso.

The Los Pumas, captained by Tigers hooker Julián Montoya, were in control from the start of the match and led by eleven points at the break.

In the opening minutes of the second-half, Leicester back Matías Moroni crossed to extend the visitors lead, which they defended to keep the home side from scoring in the second-half and recorded a 37-16 victory.

Argentina face Ireland on Sunday in the final game of their tour.

In the final of the day's Test matches, England pair Freddie Steward and Ben Youngs were key to a 32-15 victory over Australia.

Steward, who was voted Player of the Match, scored his debut England try in front of a packed Twickenham crowd after running a perfect support line in attack down the left-hand side of the field and then stepped around the last line of Wallabies defence to dive over.

England dominated proceedings with 60% of possession and almost double the attacking metres gained than their Aussie counterparts.

England welcome the World Champion Springboks to Twickenham on Saturday (November 20) in their final match of the autumn international window.
