An independent Appeal Committee convened yesterday (Wednesday, April 18) to hear the appeal lodged by Leicester Tigers prop forward Marcos Ayerza.

The appeal was against the decision of the independent Disciplinary Committee who suspended the player for three weeks as a result of a citing arising from the Heineken Cup quarter-final match against Stade Francais Paris at Welford Road, on Sunday, April 1.

The independent Appeal Committee, comprising Professor Lorne Crerar, Rod McKenzie (both Scotland) and Dr Barry O'Driscoll (Ireland), have now retired to consider their decision. The committee will communicate their decision to both parties today, Thursday, April 19.

The independent Disciplinary Committee had found Mr Ayerza guilty of striking Stade Français Paris back row forward Remy Martin and the Committee suspended the player for a period of three weeks up to and including April 30, 2007. The player was also ordered to pay the costs of the hearing.
