Neil Back, Leicester Tigers and the Rugby Football Union (RFU) are at the heart of a new initiative designed to bring the best out of young rugby players in the Staffordshire area.

The new Schools of Rugby scheme (SOR) will help talented youngsters improve their skills thanks to expert coaching in a safe and professional environment.

This Wednesday, March 14, sees the launch of the scheme at Burntwood RFC, where World Cup winner Neil Back, Tigers player development manager Carl Douglas and RFU representatives Nic Scott and Tom Bartram will give a presentation outlining their vision of the way forward for players in the U13-U16 age-groups.

This will be followed by a question and answer session helping you learn everything you may want to know about the benefits of the Staffordshire SOR set-up. Players, parents and coaches are encouraged to attend and everyone will be welcome for the duration of the evening, which kicks off at 7pm.

"Leicester Tigers look forward to working in partnership with the local rugby bodies to continue developing outstanding young talent," says Douglas. "Staffordshire's Jack Cobden is currently excelling in the Tigers Academy and we believe the county is capable of producing many more players of his standing. We are determined to ensure that the best players receive the best coaching and we are therefore encouraging any potential players or coaches who are interested in helping us achieve this goal to contact us or to come down to Burntwood RFC to register their interest."

The SOR will be jointly run by the RFU, constituent rugby authorities and Tigers, with the best interests of the player always at the forefront of the project. The scheme will act as a ladder into the Elite Player Development Groups and the Tigers Academy system, which will in turn look to help Staffordshire's most promising youngsters become national stars.

If you would like to know more about how you or your child can become involved with coaching or playing at the Staffordshire SOR, please contact Nic Scott on 07764 960403.

Tigers, the RFU and the constituent bodies will be running similar schemes in Leicestershire, Norfolk and Notts, Lincs and Derby, with launch dates soon to be confirmed. For more imformation, keep your eye on this site.
