Bid for boots and aid quake relief

An online auction of exclusive Leicester Tigers items in aid of the people affected by the Christchurch earthquake closes on Sunday.

Dan Hipkiss has signed and donated the boots he wore in scoring the Premiership winning try last season to the auction.

The auction has been organised by Craig Newby, who with team-mates Scott Hamilton and Thomas Waldrom, was at the forefront of a similar auction earlier this season which raised £2,000.

Tigers and All Blacks flanker Newby has rounded up items from his team-mates including boots, shirts and headwear, which will be sold to the highest bidder to aid the relief effort.

Items include a pair of Martin Castrogiovanni’s boots. The Tigers and Italy prop has signed and donated the personalised adidas boots, which have ‘Castro’ and the Tigers badge stitched in to the tongue.

Tigers and England hooker George Chuter has donated an England jersey signed by the squad for the 2009 Autumn internationals, which comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The auction also includes two pairs of Nike boots signed and donated by Toby Flood, a pair of white Puma boots signed and donated by Alesana Tuilagi and a black Tigers training jersey signed by members of the first-team squad.

Waldrom, a former player at Christchurch-based Crusaders whose ground was damaged in the earthquake, has signed a Crusaders T-shirt and a scrumcap.

Newby said: “There’s a lot of work still to be done in New Zealand and we are in a position to be able to help.

“There are some unique items up for auction. No-one else has boots made with Castro and Leicester Tigers on the tongue while Dan Hipkiss has donated a piece of Tigers history.”

The items will be auctioned online through the Official Leicester Tigers eBay account. The auctions will end on Sunday afternoon. To find out more, and to place your bid, click here
