Big Boot back in action at Welford Road

Two teams of young players and their coaches from Syston Rugby Club kicked off a new season of The Ultimate Big Boot with Leicester Tigers on Friday.

Sponsored by De Montfort University, the Ultimate Big Boot tests the skills of teams during half-time in first-team games at Welford Road, challenging them to catch rugby balls fired high into the sky as part of part of our matchday entertainment.

And this season there is a £100 prize for the winner of the matchday head to head as well as a jackpot prize for a cleansweep of 10 catches.

As Tigers ran out for the first time on home turf and enjoyed a 27-7 victory over Exeter Chiefs in the Premiership Cup, players from county club Syston pitted their skills against each other and The Ultimate Big Boot.

Their opening team failed to make a catch, but the second group made sure of a head-to-head prize with four successes.

Simon Harris, who was among their catchers, said: “It was great fun – I used to play second row and I never caught anything so to take a few here was good!

“We’ve got a good group of players coming through this season and good coaches so we’re looking forward to the season.”

The Ultimate Big Boot is available for group bookings and all competitors receive a Big Boot T-shirt as a souvenir. All participants must be aged 14 or over. For more information on how to get involved, phone the group sales team on 0116 2171 216.
