Two lucky groups enjoyed a Christmas matchday to remember at Welford Road as they took part in the Ultimate Big Boot at half-time during Tigers 35-24 win over Harlequins in the Gallagher Premiership.
Tigers were joined by a group from Harrogate Grammar School and Long Eaton RFC, as they put their catching skills to the test in front of more than 21,000 supporters.
Harrogate caught five out of the ten balls – which are launched high into the air – whilst Long Eaton were only able manage two catches.
The Ultimate Big Boot, sponsored by De Montfort University, invites groups of friends from schools, clubs, communities and work to record their score in our league table each year, which Tigers Group Sales team currently sit on top of with seven successful catches.
Andy Brown from Harrogate Grammar School in Yorkshire said: “It was an amazing experience out there, it’s much harder than you think. We caught five out of the ten which is a good effort from the guys. We come every year for Christmas and it’s just a fantastic day out.”
Duncan Gooch, a coach at Long Eaton RFC, added: We’ve bought along 272 from the club to watch Tigers today. It was the first time I’ve took part in the Big Boot and we’ve always watched it and wondered what it would be like.
“We only managed to catch two in the end, but we’ve had a great day out. Last year, we bought along 70 from our senior, minis and ladies teams so this years has proved even more popular.”
