Will Evans was among the try-scorers as England Under-18s opened their European Championship campaign with an 85-5 win over Portugal on Friday afternoon.Leicester Tigers Academy flanker Evans scored one of the 13 tries, with wing Gabriel Ibitoye touching down four times.
The damage was done in the first half with England scoring eight unanswered tries for a 54-point lead and Evans grabbed his try in the opening exchanges of the second period.
Head coach John Fletcher said: "We scored 13 tries which takes some doing against any side. The pitch was good and suited the way we wanted to play and we scored some good tries.
“We went in at half time well up but we didn’t lose our focus too much in the second half.”
England face hosts France on Tuesday after they beat Scotland 22-10 in their opener.
In other opening-round games, Italy beat Wales 14-13 while Georgia beat Ireland following a penalty shoot-out after the scores were level 8-8 at full-time.
