Burns aims to finish season on a high

New signing Freddie Burns aims to finish the season on a high with England before his attention switches to pre-season with Leicester Tigers.

Burns starts at fly-half for England in the third and final Test against New Zealand in Hamilton on Saturday (kick-off 8.35am BST).

He is joined in the starting XV by Ben Youngs and Manu Tuilagi but lock Geoff Parling has been withdrawn with a hamstring injury. He is replaced by Joe Launchbury.

Burns says England are frustrated at losing the first two Tests by a combined total of six points and that there is still plenty to play for on Saturday.

“I am looking forward to getting stuck in at Leicester and building on the last three weeks,” says Burns. “I went to end this season on a positive note and there’s no bigger than beating the All Blacks in their own back yard.”

He added: “It’s important to get the win for the team and the squad. We have come such a long way in the last 18 months and have come such a long way on the tour.

“To lose by five points in the first Test and one point in the second and feel like we have played well for large periods of both of those games is frustrating.

“The boys did great against the Crusaders. We need to build on that and finish the tour and the season on a high.”
