Cat Stand will add to Welford Road atmosphere - Ellis

Harry Ellis hopes the new Caterpillar Stand will add to the Welford Road atmosphere when it opens for the first time against Newcastle Falcons today.

Tigers will play in front of a record home league gate of 24,000 when the stand opens for this evening’s game.

Ellis says the ground has changed beyond recognition from when he watched Tigers play as a young supporter and he is confident the new stand will enhance the famous Welford Road atmosphere.

Ellis said: “It’s been great watching the stadium develop. We have seen the Caterpillar Stand empty and hopefully when it is full it will be great.

“When I used to go down when I was younger the Santander Alliance & Leicester Stand was not there – it was a gravel car park at the back where we used to stand and watch.

“It is great how it has developed over the years. It is a sign of the times and a sign of how the club is developing.

“It looks immense empty. When it is full of screaming Leicester fans then it will be a 16th man, especially in close games because when the fans get behind us it is a real buzz.”

Today's game is a 24,000 sell-out but you can guarantee your seat at Tigers' biggest games of the season by ordering your tickets now online or by calling 0844 856 1880.
