Supporters can now choose Leicester Tigers’ final Lumbers Player of the Month of the season.
Matt Smith, Will Spencer and Guy Thompson’s performances in Gallagher Premiership rounds 20 and 21 against Bristol Bears and Harlequins have seen them nominated for the monthly prize by head coach Geordan Murphy and his back-room staff.
Use the button below to make your choice on the Lumbers website before voting closes next Thursday, May 16. The winner will be announced at half-time of Tigers’ final home fixture of the season against Bath on Saturday, May 18 (4.00pm).
Back-rower Thompson scooped the most recent Player of the Month award in April, joining David Denton, George Ford, Jonah Holmes, Harry Wells, Ben White, George Worth and Tom Youngs on the list of winners for 2018/19.
Supported by High Street jewellers Lumbers and voted for by Tigers supporters, the monthly prize recognises the contributions of individual players throughout the campaign.
Each month, fans are asked to pick their top individual performer from a shortlist of three nominated by the Tigers coaching team. The player who tops the vote on the Lumbers website will win the award, which is then presented on the Welford Road pitch.
The retiring Leicester centre returned from injury to make his 150th Premiership appearance at Newcastle in Round 19 before starting in the outside centre berth against both Bristol and Quins. And the 33-year-old was on fine form, with 100% tackle success in both fixtures to keep his side in the game well into the final quarter.
Spencer is shortlisted for the fourth time this year after making a real impact in the Leicester engine room during his first season at the club. The big second-rower added his physical presence against both the Bears and Harlequins, making 12 carries at Welford Road, and putting in a huge shift at The Stoop just six days later.
April’s Player of the Month winner seems to have nailed down the red, white and green No7 shirt in recent weeks. His four turnovers and 16 tackles in the home fixture against the Bears were the highlight of an ultimately frustrating afternoon and his nuisance at the breakdown caused a real headache for Quins in Round 21.
Voting closes next Thursday (May 16) and the winner will be announced at half-time next Saturday (May 18) during the Round 22 Gallagher Premiership match against Bath. Match tickets are available now.
