Chuter relishing French challenge

England hooker George Chuter returns to the Tigers side to face Toulouse this Sunday, having been a late replacement in the first fixture at Welford Road last weekend.

The 31-year-old was part of England’s impressive World Cup campaign on the other side of the Channel but has missed most of Tigers’ league and cup games so far this season due to a knee operation that followed his return from international duty.

The former Saracens No2, who is clearly looking forward to starting Sunday’s match, believes his Tigers team-mates will not be intimidated by the size of the challenge ahead of them.

“Over the last couple of years, we’ve had some great wins in France and, during the history of the Heineken Cup, Leicester have always been up there in terms of coming away with something from very difficult places,” says Chuter.

“Away form is obviously key to anybody’s chances of winning the Heineken Cup, with it being a round-robin tournament. It’s a daunting task, but we’re looking forward to it.”

From a personal point of view, Chuter, who played his part for England against the Australians, the French and the South Africans, welcomes the chance to, once again, test himself against the best of the best.

“It’s an opportunity for you to match yourself against some of the best players certainly in Europe and possibly in the world.”

Live TV coverage of Sunday’s match will be shown in the Tiger Bar at Welford Road. The bar will open at 2pm ahead of the 3pm kick-off (GMT).
