Players and supporters of both teams observed an immaculate minute's silence in respect of two former Leicester Tigers players who died during the Christmas period at Sunday's Aviva Premiership match against Bath.

Tigers were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Peter Herbert and Cliff Shephard, who both served the club as players and officials in lengthy associations with the club.

Peter Herbert played for Aylestone Athletic before the first of his 66 first-team appearances in the back row for Leicester against Oxford University in October 1946.

Cliff Shephard made 140 appearances as a Tigers wing in the 1950s and 60s as well as serving as team secretary for the Swifts, Extras and then first-team and served as first-team kitman up to the 2006/07 season.

Tigers chairman Peter Tom CBE said: “Peter and Cliff were both true Leicester Tigers men. They gave so much to the Tigers over many years first as players and then in important roles behind the scenes, all for the benefit of the Club as a whole.”
