Leicester Tigers return from their pre-season camp on Saturday with Richard Cockerill pleased with the work the squad have put in at their training base in France.

Tigers completed the camp on Friday night when they played their first game of the summer which ended with a 29-17 defeat to Brive, who begin their Top 14 campaign next weekend.

No8 Jordan Crane and wing Lee Robinson were the try scorers in what was Tigers’ first game of pre-season. Jeremy Staunton kicked a conversion and a penalty and George Ford converted Robinsons’ score.

Speaking afterwards, Tigers director of rugby Cockerill said: “The week has been good. We have worked really hard and the players have put every bit of effort on the training ground and a massive effort again tonight.

“Brive put out their strongest side – they start their season next weekend – but our agenda was slightly different from theirs. We got out of it what we wanted and everyone had a run out.

“It was a good workout for us. We did some really good stuff and scored two good tries and created the chances to have scored more.”

Replacements: Harris, T Youngs, Bucknall, Bower, Markham, Hemingway, Pienaar, Slater, Armes, Harrison, Ford, Hipkiss, Forsyth, Hurrell
