Cole claims first England try

Leicester Tigers prop Dan Cole scored his first international try but it was not enough to prevent England losing 20-16 to Ireland in the RBS 6 Nations at Twickenham on Saturday.

Cole, who was winning his third England cap, drove over from close range midway through the second-half. It was converted by Jonny Wilkinson to give England a 16-13 lead.

But Ireland, who included Tigers club captain Geordan Murphy at full-back, hit back through Tommy Bowe’s late try, his second of the game, to claim the win.

Cole was joined in the starting XV by Tigers teammate Lewis Moody. Louis Deacon came on as a replacement early in the game.

Meanwhile, Martin Castrogiovanni was part of the Italy team which beat Scotland 16-12 at Rome’s Stadio Flaminio, with Pablo Canavosio scoring the decisive try in the second period.
